Addon Review: First Two, Dammaz Kron & Kwestor

January 27, 2009

Along with critique and fun stuff, I will be reviewing lesser known addons to give them an audience. Aiiane is awesome, but there are many great addons of equal quality that are never mentioned. I will even do now abandoned addons in case some gets interested and forks/makes a similar addon. Dammaz Kron and Kwestor reviews are after the break.

Dammaz Kron has to be by far the best Enemy Tracker addon out there. From the roots of the old Killing Blow, and Little Black Book, Valkea has taken it a step further by completely integrating it into the Tome of Knowledge. From killing blows, deaths, scores, classes, everything about the enemy and your battles with them are stored and saved. There are many features that come with it. Including a mini-view for selected targets that you can keep on your screen when your Tome is closed, in case you have a particularly nasty grudge against them. I was planning a similar addon, but when I saw what Valkea had in store, I immediately supported his efforts and scratched my project. So if you are looking for a good alternative to the old buggy Little Black Book, I don’t know what you are still doing here. Quick Screenshots are in the gallery linked below.

Kwestor is a great and powerful alternative to the current quest tracker. While in looks generally the same it adds new features like auto-sorting based on zone, completion, and other variables. It automatically moves all quests for the current zone onto the tracker and to the top, then lists remaining ones if there is room. Once completed, it moves the quest under the still undone ones, and changes their color. It is very well thought out and has some good customization features. Just remember, to open the ToK entry for the quest, click the Icon for the quest, not the entry. He has made the entry unclickable and only the icon. Once you get used to it, its hard to not use it. And if for any reason you want the default quest tracker, just Shift-Click the quest hider arrow, and it will hide Kwestor and show you the default tracker. Highly recommended. Curse page for those that wish to try it.
